Welcome

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in joining Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) as our Managing Director. I hope that you find the information contained within this site useful and interesting.

Gloucestershire Managed Services (GMS) is a wholly owned subsidiary company of Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (GHFT). We are responsible for the extensive hospital estate and provide estates, facilities, and capital project services, as well as working within the local NHS economy providing non-clinical services for their businesses.

Specialising in healthcare, we have a deep understanding of the sector and are focused on ensuring a high-quality environment for the benefit of patients, staff, and visitors to GHFT. With a workforce of almost 700 staff and operating budget more than £100m we are a complex organisation that is focused on customer service, improving efficiency, and raising quality standards.

We are proud to deliver essential services, every day, for Cheltenham General Hospital, Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, and a growing number of external NHS and other customers. Our dedicated and skilled workforce ensures that our estate and facilities are fit for purpose, meet cleanliness and infection prevention control requirements; transports patients to where they need to be, and that vital medical equipment is maintained to compliant standards; and our catering teams ensure that all our patients, visitors and staff have access to good quality meals. This work often goes on in the background but is vital to the smooth running of the hospitals, the care that patients receive and to the wellbeing of staff.

At GMS we know where we need to improve. We want to innovate and be able to respond well to the complex challenges we face. We have a Staff Forum, run by our staff for our staff, which is a great way to ensure that their ideas and expertise by skill or experience is represented at board meetings and helps to shape the way we work.

I am particularly proud of the contribution that our staff made to delivering essential services pre and post pandemic and that they continue to make in support of the NHS journey to net zero by 2040. Our organisation is dedicated to sustainable solutions, and to facilitating positive long-term shifts towards sustainable behaviour.  Our Green Plan also includes using a social value model in our procurement.

As Chair, I lead the GMS Board.  Our Managing Director is on the Board and as Company Directors the Board is collectively responsible for the exercise of powers and for the performance of the organisation, a Board is accountable for ensuring that GMS operates effective systems of governance and internal control, is efficient and is good value for money.

We are looking to appoint a Managing Director with strong, visible, and resilient leadership skills who can also engage with and motivate a diverse 24/7 workforce.  Our Managing Director will be skilled at navigating through a complex and dynamic regulated environment and will see this as an exceptional opportunity to showcase their strong track record of developing and growing organisations and proving our value as a trusted partner.  They will be experienced at leading and delivering strategic change, collaborative working, and engagement with stakeholders at the highest level across systems to develop strong and valued strategic relationships.  They will bring experience of operating at Board level in a comparably complex, highly regulated organisation, a passion for delivering excellent services to our patients and customers, inclusive development with our workforce and a commitment to sustainability.

It is important that our Managing Director understands healthcare and the people that deliver vital services within it, and that they have a commitment to GMS and NHS values, and to Nolan Principles.

The Managing Director of GMS will be required to demonstrate credible experience of public sector estates and facilities, asset, risk, and multi-skilled workforce management, as well as a strong background in finance leadership, people and organisational development, and compliance assurance.

We welcome and encourage applications from the diverse communities we serve and all those who are under-represented at very senior levels.

Kind regards,

Kaye Law-Fox, Chair
